The idea of publishing a volume on the subject of Ramat Bet Shemesh and its vicinity came into being following many years’ work in the region, which is one of the richest and most varied in Israel both archaeologically and scenically. The regional masterplan,¹ 200/בש (Fig. 1), which was approved in 1994, led to a wave of extensive studies that on occasion changed previous scholarly conceptions.
